Now here’s how to write a McDonald’s resume that’ll have them saying “I’m lovin’ it”:

1. Choose the Best Format for Your McDonald’s Resume

Picture this. You walk into a restaurant and it’s a mess. Nothing’s where it’s supposed to be.

So make sure your resume format says only good things about you. Here’s how:

McDonald’s Resume Format

All things being equal, PDF is better than *.docx for your resume. But double and triple check that something other than PDF isn’t required after all. This can vary from location to location.

2. Write an Attention-Grabbing McDonald’s Resume Profile

You’ll hear a lot how important it is to stand out. Do it with a resume profile that grabs their attention from the get go.

Got some experience at a McDonald’s or other fast-food place? Then make your profile a resume summary statement. It’ll put the focus on your accomplishments.

Use:

  1. One adjective (hard-working, reliable, friendly)
  2. Job title (Crew Member, Manager)
  3. Years of experience (1+, 3+)
  4. What you can do to help (provide excellent customer service)
  5. Two or three of your most impressive achievements (served up to 200 customers daily, received 96% customer satisfaction score)

These McDonald’s crew member resume examples show how:

McDonald’s Resume Summary

Good Example
Enthusiastic McDonald’s crew member with 3+ years’ experience in food service and fast food. Seeking opportunity to provide excellent customer service while being a team player at New Haven McDonald’s. At Greenwich McDonald’s, received 15+ commendations for cleanliness from manager while meeting 100% of daily targets.
Bad Example
McDonald’s crew member with 3 years’ experience in the industry. Seeking opportunity to join laid-back team closer to home in New Haven. At Greenwich McDonald’s, received commendations from manager for cleanliness and worked with other crew members to meet daily targets.

The first example is all about what the candidate can do for McDonald’s. It’s also got numbers associated with each duty— This is how you can turn boring old McDonald’s responsibilities into resume achievements.

But what if you don’t have this kind of experience to draw upon? Write a resume objective statement instead. Use it to talk up achievements that prove your skills from non-McDonald’s jobs.

McDonald’s Resume Objective

Good Example
Reliable server with 1+ year’s experience in food service. Seeking opportunity to provide excellent customer service while being a team player at New Haven McDonald’s. At Bill’s Diner, memorized over 60 menu items and upsold at least 30% of tables.
Bad Example
No experience working at McDonald’s, but worked as a server straight after high school. Looking forward to working with a fun team, hoping for flexible hours and no weekends.

No experience does not mean nothing to offer. Figure out what you can bring to the table and focus on that.

Struggling? That’s normal and there’s an easy fix: Write your resume profile last.

3. Create the Perfect McDonald’s Job Description and Skills Section

Finding it hard to convince them you’ve got what it takes? Learn how to describe a McDonald's job on a resume with power. Just let them see what you’ve achieved in the past. Nothing’s more convincing than that.

So turn your resume work history into a rapid-fire series of accomplishments.

How to write McDonald’s job description for a resume:

  1. Take a minute to re-read the job ad.
  2. Be on the lookout for the skills and duties in it.
  3. Think of times you’ve impressed employers by using those skills.
  4. Write resume bullet points that describe those times and put numbers to what you did.

These McDonald’s crew member resume examples show how:

Good Example

Crew Member

McDonald’s, Greenwich, CT

Decemebr 2019–present

  • Helped over 95% of customers find something to order, including customers with dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Met 100% of all daily goals by cooperating with other crew members.
  • Received 15+ commendations from manager for cleanliness of restaurant.
  • Ensured items were in stock 98% of the time by informing manager of low stocks as early as possible.
Bad Example

Crew Member

McDonald’s, Greenwich, CT

2019–present

  • Helped most customers find something to order.
  • Met daily goals by cooperating with other crew members.
  • Received commendations from manager for cleanliness.
  • Ensured items were in stock.

Both examples do well in using resume power words—But otherwise the first one has the second one beat.

Important: You’ll also need a resume skills section. But, don’t spam your application with random skills to put on resumes. Be really selective in what you include here. Cover everything they mention in the job ad and not much more besides. The following are just there to give you some idea:

McDonald’s Resume Hard Skills

  • Food preparation
  • Food handling safety
  • Proper handing of chemical cleaning products
  • Drive thru
  • McDonald’s POS
  • Inventory
  • Operating McCafe coffee machines
  • Operating deep fryers
  • Operating ice cream dispensers
  • Operating beverage dispensers

4. Make Your Education a Reason to Hire You

The good thing about McDonald’s and other, similar employers is that you don’t have to have an education to get your foot in the door. But that doesn’t mean your resume education section doesn’t matter. Far from it.

For high school, list the name of the school, its location, and the years you attended.

For college, list the name of your degree (with majors), the school name, and years attended.

Include your expected graduation year if you’re still studying. Then, add a couple of bullet points that speak to your skills. This McDonald’s crew member resume example shows how:

Good Example

2014–2018

  • Graduated with a 3.75 GPA.
  • Achieved a combined SAT score of 1450.

Short on work experience?

Include more bullet points, covering projects, classes, and accomplishments that show relevant skills like communication and customer service.

5. Top Your McDonald’s Resume with Extra Sections

Many people will stop right here. Get ahead by going further—makes sense, right? Add one or two extra sections to change your McResume into a McRoyal Resume:

These two McDonald’s resume examples show yes vs no:

Good Example

Certifications

  • First Aid, American Red Cross

Languages

Bad Example

Hobbies

  • Watercolors (just looking at)
  • Scambaiting
  • Making savory food from dessert food (but not vice versa)

Languages

  • Spanish (hola!)

It’s not that hobbies are a bad idea (they’re not). It’s just that everything you add has to be clearly relevant to working at McDonald’s.

One final hurdle, nearly there! You’ll need to write a cover letter to go with your McDonald’s resume.
